Friends of libraries

The Friends of the Columbia County Libraries will be meeting next at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Gibbs Library on Belair Road. For more information, call 541-0726.

Anniversary

Church of the Holy Comforter is celebrating its second anniversary with expanded worship services. Beginning today there will be a worship service at 10:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. A nursery is provided. Holy Comforter meets at the Savannah Rapids Pavilion on Evans to Locks Road. Call 210-1133 for details.

Asbestos training

The Martinez Fire Department will have a training session regarding the Environmental Protection Agency's asbestos regulations from 9 a.m.-noon Tuesday at the Columbia County Emergency Management Agency office on Faircloth Drive in Evans. For reservations, call 799-8134 or 667-5155.

Blood drive

The Shepeard Community Blood Center and Evans High School Health Occupations Students of America will have a blood drive from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday at Evans High's gymnasium. The public is welcome, but visitors must stop by the main office to get a visitor's pass. For more information, call 860-7698.

MLK celebration

Brookwood Elementary School's 13th annual musical production to honor Martin Luther King Jr. will be at 2:15 and 7 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. Tuesday at the school. It also will be performed on tour at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Lake Forest Hills Elementary Schools and at 10 a.m. Thursday at Douglas Elementary School. The production involved 125 of the school's fifth-graders. The event is free and open to the public.

Human resources meeting

The Augusta-Aiken Society for Human Resources Management will be meeting from 7:30-9:15 a.m. Friday at the Radisson Riverfront Hotel. A $15 guest fee will include breakfast. The topic will be recruiting in the Internet age. Reservations can be made by calling Regina Mobley at 739-1351.

Sierra Club meeting

The Sierra Club will be meeting at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Unitarian Church on Walton Way Extension. Robyn Jarrett with the Georgia Department of Tourism will be the guest speaker. For more information, call 863-2324.

Church luncheon

A monthly inspiration and lunch gathering called Time Out will be offered by First Baptist Church of Evans to those living or working in the community at 11:50 a.m. Thursday . Mistletoe Jam

The third annual Mistletoe Jam at Mistletoe State Park in Appling will take place Jan. 19 and 20. The event will be an informal jam featuring various mountain dulcimer players along with other musicians. The only charge is $2 for parking. For camping reservations, call (800) 864-7275.
