Society inductee
Jessica Crouse of Martinez was recently inducted into the Golden Key International Honour Society, the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society and the Alpha Pi Mu Industrial Engineering Honor Society at Florida State University. She also was named to the dean's list at the school for the fall semester. Crouse, a junior majoring in industrial engineering, is a 1999 graduate of Evans High School and the daughter of Tom and Joni Crouse.
School collections
Several Columbia County schools recently helped collect items for an annual food drive to benefit the Salvation Army. The number of canned goods collected totaled 3,600 at Westmont Elementary School, 1,915 at Lakeside Middle and 4,050 at Greenbrier High.
Youth academy graduates
Aaron Clark, Andrew Powledge and Colbey Moore of Martinez recently graduated from the National Guard-sponsored Youth Challenge Academy at Fort Stewart.
Serviceman returns
Navy Airman Timothy M. Crowley of Martinez recently returned from a Western Pacific deployment to the Arabian Gulf aboard the aircraft carrier USS Constellation. While there, he was involved in a mission called "Operation Southern Watch." He also helped in ensuring that no illegal importing or exporting laws were being broken in the area.
Scholarship recipient
Jennifer Flowers, daughter of John and Carol Flowers of Evans, has been accepted to receive a $1,000 state scholarship from Georgia Alpha Delta Kappa for the 2001-2002 academic year. Flowers is a sophomore at the University of Georgia majoring in public relations. She is a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority, Alpha Lambda Delta honor society, the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and has been named a presidential scholar. She also is a member of the University of Georgia Ballroom Dance Group and is a volunteers for the Athens Chapter of the American Red Cross.
Scholarship recipient
Mary Beth Wiggins, daughter of Wayne and Margaret Wiggins of Evans, has been named a recipient of a $1,000 state scholarship by the Epsilon Chapter of Georgia Alpha Delta Kappa for the 2001-2002 academic year. Wiggins, a sophomore math education major at the University of Georgia, is in the Honors Program and is a member of Alpha Lambda Delta and Alpha Omicron Pi. She also is a charter scholar, has been a presidential scholar and was selected to be a hostess for the university's football recruits.
College graduate
Katherine Mary DeGrow, daughter of Randy and Pat DeGrow of Martinez, recently graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology with high honors and a degree in civil engineering. She will be working as a civil engineer with Jordan, Jones and Goulding in Smyrna. DeGrow is a 1997 graduate of Lakeside High School.
Dean's list
John M. Crawley and Henry J. Flowers, both of Appling, recently were named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.

Elizabeth Lobello, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Lobello of Evans, was recently named to the dean's list at Young Harris College for the fall semester. She is a sophomore at the school and is a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.
College graduate
Daniel Blaine Welch, son of Mr. and Mrs. Steve N. Welch of Augusta, recently graduated from Berry College with a bachelor of science degree in Sociology.

The following Columbia County students were recently inducted into the Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Honor Circle at Georgia Souther University: Helen Black of Evans, a junior; Danielle N. Callan of Evans, a junior; Tynisha L. Middleton of Evans, a junior; and Patricia D. Schofield of Martinez, a junior.
