The following accounts were taken from reports filed with the Columbia County Sheriff's office.
Unsecured load found
A Columbia County sheriff's deputy found a large pile of sewer sludge dumped in the middle of a Grovetown road Thursday.
According to reports, Deputy Ernest Gary Harden Jr. said he was out patrolling around noon when he noticed the sludge in the center turn lane of Lewiston Road at Columbia Road.
A passer-by told Harden he saw the load fall off a C and B Fosters truck, which was traveling west toward the county's landfill. Harden contacted the driver of the truck and the owner of C and B Fosters, which is based in Augusta, and issued a written warning for an unsecured load.
Home burglary
A Martinez woman told police Thursday that an unknown woman entered her house and took several items.
Dawn M. Zellers of the 400 block of Blue Ridge Drive said her son witnessed the woman entering her bedroom and then leaving in a green car, reports stated.
A diamond engagement ring and other wedding-related items were missing from the home. According to department records, Zellers' son said the woman was wearing a black shirt with purple trim and black pants. The case is considered burglary.
