The following accounts were taken from reports filed with the Columbia County Sheriff's office.

Drug arrests

Two men were arrested on several drug charges Christmas Day after being stopped by a Columbia County deputy near a Martinez construction site.

Charles Tucker Saunders, 32, of the 2200 block of Central Avenue, Augusta, was charged with felony possession of marijuana, possession of methamphetamines, possession of schedule II drugs and possession of schedule IV drugs, according to jail records. Jason Douglas, 20, of the 200 block of Sleepy Creek, Athens, was charged with possession of schedule IV drugs, possession of methamphetamines and possession of schedule II drugs. Bond was set at $8,700 and $7,650 respectively.

Sheriff's Capt. Steve Morris said the arrests were made after a deputy conducted a traffic stop on a car near a construction area at Baston and Old Ferry Road. He said the drugs Zanex, Methadone, crystal methamphetamine, marijuana and valium were found inside the car.

Refund deception

A Bath, S.C. man was arrested Dec. 20 at the Martinez Wal-Mart for attempting to obtain a refund on two DVD movies that hadn't been purchased.

According to department records, Gerald Wayne Manning, 47, of the 100 block of Railroad Street was arrested in the parking lot of the Bobby Jones Expressway store and taken to the Columbia County Detention Center.

Willie Frank James Jr., a loss prevention worker for Wal-Mart, said Manning picked up the two DVDs, opened one of them and then asked for his money back at a service desk.

Dentist office trespass

An office manager at an Evans dentist office told police Dec. 18 that someone shattered one of the business' windows.

Jackie Ray Carroll, a worker for Nancy Napier Family and Cosmetic Dentistry on Old Evans Road, said she found the damage to a front window, reports showed. The damage was estimated at $100. Nothing was reported missing, but the case is considered criminal trespass.
