National Guard enlistment

Dustin T. Elliott, a 2002 graduate of Lakeside High School, recently enlisted into the National Guard. After eight weeks of basic training next summer at Fort Seal, Okla., he is scheduled to receive training in artillery as a cannon crewmember.

Eagle scout

Robert Adam Arthur of Martinez recently received his Eagle Scout rank. He is pictured with his father, Robert L. (Bobby) Arthur, who is his scout master.

Canned goods donation

Several Evans High School students involved in graphic arts, drafting VICA chapters and the school's Interact Club recently participated in a collection of canned goods for the Golden Harvest Food Bank. The drive involved home rooms competing against one another.

College graduate

Steven C. Pletcher, son of Mr. and Mrs. Tim Pletcher of Evans, recently graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology Summa Cum Laude with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering. Pletcher is a 1996 graduate of Lakeside High School and will be employed with Bose Corporation in Boston, Mass.

Raider team competition

The Evans High School Knight Raider Team recently competed in the Georgia State Championships, placing fourth out of 26 teams. The team also took third place in map reading. Adara Story placed first for achieving the highest individual score in the state for females in the Army physical fitness test.

Drill team honored

Evans High School's Knight drill teams were recently honored for being the best marching unit in the Veterans Day Parade in Augusta during a Knight Battalion Parade. A trophy was presented to drill team commanders.
