Redistricting meeting
A meeting to discuss a reapportionment mapping of the legislative districts and how they will affect the area will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 10 at Sheraton Hotel in Augusta.
Guest speakers will be Georgia Sen. Eric Johnson, and Rep. Lynn Westmoreland. Also speaking will be Sen. Joey Brush and State Rep. Ben Harbin.
Another gathering to discuss the same topic will take place from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Amigos Mexican Restaurant in Thomson. There, hosts will be the McDuffie County Republican Party, Congressman Charlie Norwood, Brush and Rep. Bill Jackson. Johnson and Westmoreland also will be on hand. Cost will be $10 for the luncheon in Thomson and $25 for the reception at the Sheraton.
Church luncheon
First Baptist Church of Evans will have its monthly Time Out inspiration and lunch gathering at 11:50 a.m. Dec. 13. The event is for all who live or work in the community. Cost will be $5, and reservations should be made by noon Dec. 12. For more information, call 863-1228.
Holiday tour and dinner

Candlelight service
The Harmony Baptist Church on Hopkins Street in Augusta will have its annual candlelight communion service at 6 p.m. Dec. 9. The Rev. Otis Moss III and the Tabernacle Baptist Church family will be the special guests.
Augusta Players auditions
The Augusta Players will have auditions for a production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella at 3 p.m. Dec. 9 and 7:30 p.m. Dec. 17 at the Augusta Players Warehouse on Walton Way. Auditions consist of a prepared solo from the show, a reading from the script and a dance audition. Roles are available for 10 men ages 18 and older and 10 women ages 16 and older. Shoe collection
The Georgia Podiatric Medical Association is running a shoe collection drive for the homeless in the Augusta area. The association will accept new and used shoes of any size, and donations can be brought to any local podiatrist's office through January. For more information, call Dr. Kent E. Citizen award presentation
The Harlem Woman's Club is accepting nominations for its 2001 Citizen of the Year Award. The award, which will acknowledge someone who has served his or her community through church activities, volunteer work or career, will be presented at 4 p.m. Jan. 10 at the Woman's Club in Harlem. Holiday concert
The Augusta Opera will present the 18th annual Augusta Opera and St Paul's Holiday Concert at 3:30 and 6 p.m. today at St. Paul's Church on Reynolds Street. There will be holiday and patriotic music performed. Fencing classes offered
The Augusta Fencers Club is accepting registration for two new classes in beginning foil fencing. One of the classes will be for youths age 14 and younger. It will meet from 6 to 7 p.m. on Fridays. The second will be an adult class from 6 to 7 p.m. on Thursdays. Both classes will last three months and cost $40 per month. For more information, call 722-8878.
Free admission to museum
The Augusta Museum of History will offer free admission to its facility Sundays. The museum is located on Reynolds Street in downtown Augusta and is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays. For more information, call 722-8454.

Help offered
The Columbia County Chapter of The Compassionate Friends offers grief support for families suffering the loss of a child. They meet every second Monday of the month at 7:30 p.m. at Philadelphia United Methodist Church, 780 Old Louisville Road, Harlem.

Volunteers needed
The Court Appointed Special Advocate Program is looking for volunteers age 21 and older to help advocate for abused and neglected children in the juvenile court system.
Volunteers work alongside the Department of Family and Children Services and other agencies to protect children who have been placed in foster care. Volunteers need no experience and will be provided specialized training. For more information, call 737-4631.
Vehicle donation
The National Kidney Foundation of Georgia's is seeking donations of old vehicles to be sold as a fund-raiser.

Fantasy of lights display
The Fantasy of Light drive-through display is being offered to the public through Dec. 24 at Pendleton King Park on Troupe Street. Open times are 6 to 9 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 6 to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. The event includes more than 50,000 miniature lights and 110 light displays. All proceeds from the event go to the local Easter Seals.
Historical donations needed
The City of Grovetown Museum Board of Directors is seeking donations of military memorabilia with ties to Fort (Camp) Gordon for a special display depicting the historical relationship between the fort and Grovetown.
Photographs, documents, uniforms, personal military equipment, medals and copies of news article are needed. Donated items will be displayed in two glass cases which were purchased through a grant from the Fort Gordon Officers Wives Club. Christmas presentation
