Toy Drive

Martinez Elementary School is holding a new toy drive Dec. 3-7 to benefit The Columbia County Foundation for Children, a non-profit organization dedicated to serving our county's children in need. New toys will be collected during this week and cash donations are welcomed and will be used to purchase gifts for the Foundation. For more information, call the school at 863-8308.

Free tennis lessons

On Thursday and Friday, Dec. 20-21, Petersburg Racquet Club will offer free tennis lessons to children ages 18 and under who have not played before, or who have limited experience. These holiday lessons are from noon to 2 p.m. Tennis rackets will be provided, if needed. Anyone interested in participating needs to register in advance by calling Petersburg Racquet Club at (706)860-9288. For more information, ask for head professional Dave Gleason.

Book signing

A book signing for the Columbia County pictorial history book, Images of America, Columbia County, Georgia, will take place from 1-4 p.m. Dec. 8 at Waldenbooks in Augusta Mall.

Legislative breakfast

The Columbia County Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee's Annual Pre-Legislative Breakfast on Tuesday, Dec. 4, at the Savannah Rapids Pavilion.

State Sens. Joey Brush and Don Cheeks and Reps. Ben Harbin and Bill Jackson are scheduled to attend.

The event begins at 7:30 a.m., and a complimentary continental breakfast will be available. There is no cost to attend, but reservations are requested. For more information, call (706) 651-0018.

Church luncheon

First Baptist Church of Evans will have its monthly Time Out inspiration and lunch gathering at 11:50 a.m. Dec. 13. The event is for all who live or work in the community. Cost will be $5, and reservations should be made by noon Dec. 12. For more information, call 863-1228.

Christmas musical

Stevens Creek Community Church will present the Christmas musical "Scrooge!" at 7 p.m. on Dec. 6, 7, 8 and 9 at the church on Stevens Creek Road. There also will be a 3 p.m. Saturday matinee. The cost for tickets, which can be purchased at Family Christian Bookstores, Stevens Creek Community Church or on-line at www.stevenscreek.net, are $3. For more information, call 863-7002.

Fire department meeting

The Leah Volunteer Fire Department will have its annual general meeting at 7 p.m. Dec. 11 at station No. 2 on Burks Mountain Road. The public is invited to attend. There will be an election of board members for the coming year.

Holiday presentation

The fourth-graders of Brookwood Elementary School will be performing the school's 12th annual version of Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker several times during December. The schedule is as follows: 7 p.m on Dec. 4 at Brookwood, 9 and 9:40 a.m. at Brookwood, 9:30 a.m. show for guest schools and day cares at Brookwood and 9:30 a.m. at Sue Reynolds Elementary School. Holiday auction

Girls Inc. of the CSRA will be having their 20th annual holiday auction at 7 p.m. Nov. 30 at Sacred Heart Cultural Center. For more information, call 733-2512.
