Pastor: Mike Klaus

Congregation size: 130 on a typical Sunday morning.

Membership: Most members live in the Martinez/Evans area. However, there are some members from as far away as McDuffie County. The age range of most members is varied, and the church has a youth group of about 30.

Founded: September, 1999

Known for: The church runs the Columbia County Christian Academy, which is a Christian private school for those pre-kindergarten age through fourth grade.

"This program is designed to accommodate families who want an excellent Bible-based academic curriculum," Klaus said. "It is intended for all students to build a foundation of spiritual awareness while achieving a higher education."

Klaus said the church also is known for its youth group's outreach ministries - one of which is called the MOLE group. MOLE stands for Making Others Lives Easier. "They'll go to a person's house that might not even know it and will rake up their yard and wash their car. And they'll just leave a note saying, 'The moles have been here."'

Music: The church incorporates the musical accompaniment of a piano and organ. Songs are varied in style. "Come and hear, it's unique," said Klaus.

What would you say to someone who's thinking about giving your church a try? "Anyone that would come and visit our church would feel at home right away," said Klaus. "The people at the church accept, love and make everyone feel welcome. I believe that anyone can find a place for spiritual growth and commitment at Columbia County Christian Church. We are committed to provide a caring home with honest relationships."

What do you believe to be the biggest issue facing the faithful today? "To remain faithful," said Klaus. "Christians simply need to keep their faith and remain and be a faithful witness throughout their lives. Matthew 5:14 says, 'You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.' In this time of need for our country and world, the faithful need to remain faithful as a witness to those who need to see the light of Jesus Christ."
