Thanksgiving service
Harlem United Methodist Church will be having a Thanksgiving service at 7 p.m. Thursday. For more information, call 556-6885.
Landfill closing
The Columbia County Baker Place Landfill will be closed Thursday in recognition of Thanksgiving. It will reopen at 6 a.m. Friday.
Martinez Christmas parade
The Merchants Association of Columbia County will be presenting the annual Martinez Christmas Parade at 2 p.m. Dec. 2. The parade route will begin at the intersection of Washington and Columbia roads and will end at the Columbia-Richmond county line on Washington Road. The event is expected to include more than 100 entries and will include a visit from Santa Claus.
Library closings
All Columbia County libraries will be closed Nov. 22 and 23 in observance of the Thanksgiving holidays. The book return boxes at Gibbs Library will be closed to prevent over filling. Fines will not be charged for the holidays.
Christmas concert
The Columbia County Choral Society will be presenting the Christmas concert, "Fantasia on Christmas Carols," by R. Vaughan Williams at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 30 at First Baptist church of Evans. Tickets are available from choral members or at the door for $8 per adult and $6 per student or senior. For more information, call 855-9433.
High school class reunion

Christmas tree lighting
The first annual Columbia County Tree Lighting ceremony will take place from 3-6 p.m. Dec. 1 at the Evans Government Complex on Ronald Reagan Drive. Activities will include a visit and photo with St. Nick from 4-6 p.m., the Columbia County Choral Society and elementary school performances from 5-6 p.m. There also will be arts and crafts and food vendors. Holiday auction
Girls Inc. of the CSRA will be having their 20th annual holiday auction at 7 p.m. Nov. 30 at Sacred Heart Cultural Center. For more information, call 733-2512.
Cub scout presentation

Grovetown parade
The Grovetown Department of Public Safety is now accepting applications for the 2001 Grovetown Christmas Parade, which will take place at noon on Dec. 1. Applications can be obtained from the department of public safety or by calling 863-1212.
Harlem Christmas parade
The Harlem Lions Club Christmas Parade will take place at 2 p.m. Dec. 15. Entry forms are now available at Harlem City Hall or by calling 556-3448 or Scott Dean at 556-0083.
