Georgia Forestry advice
The Georgia Forestry Commission is now offering advise to residents on whether their home is in the line of fire. The service is particularly aimed at rural residents. For more information, call Chief Ranger Steve Abbott at 556-3962.
Safety program visit
A safety education program by the Utility Protection Center of Georgia will be presented at Martinez Elementary School at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 20. The program is designed to educate children on the dangers of underground and overhead utility lines.
Book discussion group
The Gibbs Library book discussion group will meet next at 7 p.m. Nov. 19 at the library. They will be reading Red, White and Blue, by Susan Isaacs.
Grovetown parade
The Grovetown Department of Public Safety is now accepting applications for the 2001 Grovetown Christmas Parade, which will take place at noon on Dec. 1. Applications can be obtained from the department of public safety or by calling 863-1212.
Library closings
All Columbia County libraries will be closed Nov. 22 and 23 in observance of the Thanksgiving holidays. The book return boxes at Gibbs Library will be closed to prevent over filling. Fines will not be charged for the holidays.
Christmas concert
The Columbia County Choral Society will be presenting the Christmas concert, "Fantasia on Christmas Carols," by R. Vaughan Williams at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 30 at First Baptist church of Evans. Tickets are available from choral members or at the door for $8 per adult and $6 per student or senior. For more information, call 855-9433.

Citizen award presentation
The Harlem Woman's Club is now accepting nominations for its upcoming 2001 Citizen of the Year Award. The award, which will acknowledge someone that has served their community through church activities, volunteer work or their career, will be presented at 4 p.m. on Jan. 10 at the Woman's Club in Harlem. Prayer location offered
The sanctuary of First Baptist Church of Evans will be open from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. each Thursday for those wishing to meditate or pray. For more information, call 863-1228. The church is located on the corner of Washington and Belair roads.
Election meetings
An informational meeting discussing the FSA Committee election procedures will take place at 11 a.m. Nov. 20 in the conference room of the Thomson, McDuffie County Library. A second meeting also will take place at 11 a.m. Nov. 21 in the conference room of the USDA Service Center on Bob Kirk Road in Thomson.
