Editor:
This is in response to The News-Times Nov. 7 editorial ("Will of the people a sham) which stated that people who are calling the Columbia County Chairmanship/ CEO Task Force elitist are ill-informed.
I appreciate the work the task force members have put in, but I was among the 54 percent of the voters who disagreed with their recommendation and voted accordingly. Its the members own words which are casting them in an elitist light.
I was particularly disturbed to read where one member said the reason we voted for a four-member County Commission plus an elected chairman is because that was the first option listed on the ballot. The implication is that Columbia County voters were like an elementary school class ill-prepared for a pop quiz, and we just took a guess at the correct answer. The editorial further reinforced the view that we arent very intelligent when it stated that well be confused because the four Commission districts wont match up with the five school board districts. Dont worry about that; if the voters will is followed and we go to four Commission districts, Im sure well somehow manage to figure out which district were in.
I believe certain recent remarks by members of the task force have been either A) elitist, B) nave, or C) incredibly stupid. Im not sure which answer is correct, but Ill go with elitist since thats the first option listed.
