Festival of trees
The Junior League of Augusta will be presenting the annual Festival of Trees event beginning Nov. 14 at the Augusta Museum of History. Events, which include a fantasyland of trees, an auction, a dollhouse village and entertainment, crafts and children's games, will continue through Nov. 18. Dinner theatre
The Fort Gordon Dinner Theatre will present the comedy/drama The Last Night of Ballyhoo by Alfred Uhry at 8 p.m. Nov. 15, 16 and 17. Dinner for each show will be at 7 p.m. Tickets are $24-$27. For reservations, call 793-8552.
Holiday open house

Library closings
All Columbia County libraries will be closed Nov. 22 and 23 in observance of the Thanksgiving holidays. The book return boxes at Gibbs Library will be closed to prevent over filling. Fines will not be charged for the holidays.
Holiday concert
The Augusta Opera will be presenting the 18th annual Augusta Opera and St Paul's Holiday Concert at 3:30 and 6 p.m. Dec. 2 at St. Paul's Church on Reynolds Street. There will be both holiday and patriotic music performed. The service will include the King's College Chapel, Cambridge University from England, The Augusta Collegium Musicum, Augusta State University Choir and the Columbia County Choral Society. Fire department meeting
The Leah Volunteer Fire Department will have its annual general meeting at 7 p.m. Dec. 11 at station No. 2 on Burks Mountain Road. The public is invited to attend. There will be an election of board members for the coming year.
Holiday presentation
The fourth-graders of Brookwood Elementary School will be performing the school's 12th annual version of Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker" several times during December. The schedule is as follows: 7 p.m on Dec. 4 at Brookwood, 9 and 9:40 a.m. at Brookwood, 9:30 a.m. show for guest schools and day cares at Brookwood and 9:30 a.m. at Sue Reynolds Elementary School. The Harlem Woman's Club is now accepting nominations for its upcoming 2001 Citizen of the Year Award. The City of Thomson is currently offering free mulch to all interested farmers, businesses and private citizens. The city grinds all of its yard trimmings and collects the mulch on a quarterly basis. Historical donations needed
The City of Grovetown Museum Board of Directors is currently seeking donations of military memorabilia with ties to Fort (Camp) Gordon for a special display depicting the historical relationship between the fort and Grovetown. Donated items will be displayed in two glass cases, which were purchased through a grant from the Fort Gordon Officers Wives Club. Fencing classes offered
The Augusta Fencers Club is now accepting registration for two new classes in beginning foil fencing. One of the classes will be for those age 14 and younger. It will meet from 6-7 p.m. on Fridays. Volunteers needed
The local Court Appointed Special Advocate Program is looking for volunteers, ages 21 and older, to help advocate for abused and neglected children in the juvenile court system.
Volunteers work alongside the Department of Family and Children Services and other community agencies to protect children who have been placed in foster care.

The National Kidney Foundation of Georgia's is seeking donations of old vehicles to be sold as a fund-raiser.
