Lakeside boosters, players deserve better regard

Editor:

There are two issues I would like to discuss. The first is that Lakeside High School Athletic Booster Club President Rick Evans was unjustly ridiculed in Ashley Browns column in the Oct. 17 News-Times. Evans has been a diligent, unpaid participant in the needs of Lakesides students and staff. If Brown would like to bash someone, I think he needs to focus on people who have blatantly lied and misrepresented themselves. This entire issue of how Coach Ed Koester was hired is an embarrassment to Lakeside and the Columbia County school system.

Secondly, I would like to see the graduating seniors go out on a good note. Those seniors playing football for Koester should be especially treated fairly by this coach; after all this is their last year.

I have attended many of Lakesides football games and have heard comments from people in the stands. The one thing I hear most is the disapproval of his treatment of his coaching staff and players. I hope the opportunity he has received to redeem himself is not taken lightly.

My hope is that all of this mess will come to an end and that we can proceed with the level of excellence that Lakeside High School demonstrates.
