School musical

The third-grade students of Brookwood Elementary School will be presenting the musical "Brookwood Sings America" at 2:15 and 7 p.m. Nov. 8 and 9 a.m. Nov. 9 at the school. The production will include patriotic music and will include audience participation in the singing of songs. The cost is free. For more information, call Johnny Carr at 855-7596, ext. 217.

Democratic Party gathering

The Democratic Party of Columbia County will have a covered dish supper at 7 p.m. Nov. 5 at the Fairington Clubhouse on Georgia Hereford Farm Road. Joe Martin, a candidate for state school superintendent, will be the speaker. Food and drinks will be provided. The public is invited to attend. For more information, call 650-0431.

Gospel music concert

Believers Fellowship Church, located on Flowing Wells Road in Augusta, will be having a morning worship service with Williford and the Good News on Nov. 4.

Holiday food drive

An Evans orthodontist, Dr. Steven Powell, is once again sponsoring his annual food drive to benefit Columbia County Cares. Donations of non-perishable grocery items, such as canned fruits, vegetables or meats, laundry detergent, grits, peanut butter or dish soap, will be accepted 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays at his office, located at 625 Ronald Regan Drive near the Evans Post Office. Pet adoptions

There will be a "Special Feline Extravaganza" from 1-3 p.m. Nov. 4 and 18. A "Dog Day Adoptions" event also will be from 1-3 p.m. Nov. 11. For more information, call Barbara Gleitsmann at 860-8962.

Veteran's Day celebration

Lakeside Middle School will be having a Veteran's Day celebration of America's heroes at 8:30 a.m. Nov. 9. Family members who are veterans or are active service members will be spotlighted. A reception also will follow and service memorabilia will be on display with patriotic music playing. The public is invited to attend.

School book fair

Lakeside Middle School will have its annual book fair from 7:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Nov. 8-15 in the school's media center. Students, teachers and parents are invited to come in and browse through a wide selection of traditional children's books and new works by popular authors and illustrators.
