Tiffany Poole, daughter of Jack and Iris Poole, recently was named to the dean's list for the summer semester at the Georgia Institute of Technology. She is a junior majoring in industrial engineering.

Cadle of Evans, Carol L. Diessner of Martinez, Pedro L. Salcedo of Grovetown, Bryan K. Shiver of Martinez and Jennifer G. Hunt of Martinez.
Jeanna Marie Slusser, daughter of Les and Jackie Slusser of Martinez, recently graduate with honors from Georgia Institute of Technology with a bachelor of science degree in industrial engineering and a certificate in health performance sciences. She is a graduate of Augusta Christian School and is employed at Xerox Connect as a knowledge management consultant in Alpharetta.
Scholar award winners
Several Westminster Preparatory School students recently received various Advanced Placement Scholars Awards as named by the College Board. Cindy Whitcomb and Michael Petrides, both 2001 graduates of the school, were awarded the highest possible honor of National Scholar. In addition, Samuel Adams, Rebecca Arce, Tufik Assad, Ansley Brannen, Thomas Day, Robert Lehn, Iverson Long, Katherine Mohney, Janet Moody, Zachary Pollard and Chandler Smith receive Scholar with Distinction awards. Those named Scholar with Honor were Derek Curry, Jimi Malcolm, Steve Mullins and Elase Saxon. Lydia Kuhn, Lee Pollard and Josh Suich received the Scholar award.
Jeffrey Smith, a 2000 graduate of Augusta Preparatory Day School, recently performed the role of Actor Number One in the Denison University production of The Dining Room by A.R. Gurney. Smith is the son of Barbara and Roger Smith and is a sophomore history major at Denison.
Navy Midshipman Michael R. Chestnut, son of Karen C. and Stephen H. Chestnut of Augusta, recently received an appointment to the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis. Chestnut is a 2001 graduate of Evans High School.
Dr. Michael Rogers, an Augusta orthodontist, has been appointment by the Southern Association of Orthodontists to serve as trustee to the American Association of Orthodontists. Dr. Rogers served as president of the Georgia Association of Orthodontists in 1985 and later chaired one of the organization's committees. He is the past president of the Augusta Dental Society, the Easter District Dental Society and the MCG Orthodontic Alumni Association.
Officer completes course
Columbia County Sheriff's deputy Steven L. Coleman recently completed a course in Advanced Traffic Law by the Georgia Police Academy Division of the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Forsyth. The course is required by the Georgia Peace Officers Standards and Training Council for Advanced Certification.
Five Westminster Preparatory School seniors were recently named Commended Students for 2000 by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. The students are as follows: Samuel Adams, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robb Adams of Augusta; Bennett Ford, son of Beverly Ford and Terry Ford of Augusta; Angela Hillman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Hillman of Morelos, Mexico; Gavin Ortlund, son of Dr. and Mrs. Ray Ortlund of Martinez; and Elease Saxon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. Allen Saxon of Augusta.
Janet Word has been promoted to business development manager at Augusta Magazine. Word's new responsibilities include developing new custom publication opportunities, coordination of promotional effort as it relates to new business, developing incentive plans and creating sales materials for new business. Word joined the magazine in Sept. 2000.
