Proposed apartments 'detrimental' to West Lake

My husband and I are new residents of the newly developed Cottage are of West Lake. After considering many residential sites in the Augusta area, we decided that West Lake was a beautiful community well taken care of, with homeowners taking pride in their homes and the surrounding community.

We feel that the proposed change in zoning from Light Commercial to RA Apart-ments along Furys Ferry Road would be detrimental to the beautiful West Lake area proper and to the development of Furys Ferry Road in general. We do not feel that apartment zoning is in line with the potential architectural design that would enhance the natural beauty of this area.

To introduce a housing complex ranging from 240 to 280 units that caters to a transient population is not in the best interest of this area. We do not feel that the duplication of the Stevens Creek Apartment Complex area is in the best interest for West Lake and the associated area.

As property owners, we also have a special interest in maintaining the beautiful green space located on the south side of Reed Creek. The proposed building site will encroach approximately 120 feet from the West Lake property line and as a result compromise the aesthetics of the area.

We hope that all the Columbia County commissioners will take this inappropriate use of land into serious consideration and its effect on the hundreds of Columbia County property owners living in West Lake and the surrounding areas.
