Top educators bring honor to Columbia County

Editor,

It was my privilege and honor to represent the Co-lumbia County Chamber of Commerce at the Teacher of the Year Awards Dinner on Oct. 18. At that event, 25 Columbia County Teachers of the Year for 2001-2002 were honored.

As I watched those teachers individually receive their awards that night, I was touched by their dedication to their students. Being empty nesters (our son graduated from Lakeside in 1994), my husband and I are not as involved in the day-to-day activities of the school system. I hope never to take our great schools for granted, but that awards dinner really made me think just how fortunate we are in Columbia County to have such a superior school system. The teachers, superintendent, associate superintendents and other school personnel deserve our praise, as does our School Board.

Brian Campbell of Green-brier High School is the Columbia County Teacher of the Year. Brian made his remarks in receiving this award straight from his heart. I had never met Brian prior to that night, but when it was time for me to make the Chambers award to him, after hearing his sincere and unpretentious acceptance, no words seemed adequate in presenting the Chambers award to him.

Thank you, Brian, for your enthusiasm, your dedication and thank you for being a wonderful role model for our children and your fellow teachers!
