School lunch lampoon deserves apology

As a cartoonist for The Columbia County News-Times, I have the luxury (or problem) of filling a box on the opinion pages twice a week with a cartoon that is humorous at best, thought-provoking if possible, or heavy on detail if nothing else. I look at the world around me, listen to the people I come in contact with and then try to come up with something clever to draw. Sometimes I'll hit and sometimes Ill miss.

I missed Sunday, Oct. 14. To Kathy Belinski, Karen Green and all other school food service staff, I apologize. The timing of my cartoon during National School Lunch Week could not have been worse, and to incorporate Greenbrier High School in particular was uncalled for.

I havent eaten a school lunch in 26 years. I drew my cartoon based on memories of the bland and remarkably unappealing lunches I was served then. Starting today, I will depict school food in a more positive way.
