The following accounts were taken from reports filed with the Columbia County Sheriff's office.
Obstruction arrest
A 21-year-old Clearwater, S.C. man was arrested in Evans on Oct. 24 for obstructing law enforcement and allegedly damaging a patrol car after being stopped for reckless driving.
Michael Edward Hadden of the 200 block of Church Street was charged with obstruction and interference with government property, according to a sheriff's office report. He was stopped around 2 a.m. by Columbia County Deputy Tommy Cooksey, who said Hadden nearly drove a Ford Explorer into his patrol car while turning into the entrance of Blue Ridge Commons.
Cooksey said he heard Hadden's car tires squealing on Blue Ridge Drive before the car turned in. According to reports, when Cooksey pulled Hadden over, Hadden was sitting in a passenger seat and refused to provide any information.
A neighbor then walked up to Hadden, identified him and said Hadden was there for a visit. As Hadden was being transported to the Columbia County Detention Center for obstruction, he then reportedly broke an inside door handle to the deputy's car.
Apartment burglary
A Martinez man told police Oct. 22 that someone broken into his apartment and took more than $1,000.
Simon Apollo Raley of the 4100 block of Old Petersburg Road said someone had entered his apartment by forcing open a window, reports showed. He said a shoe box filled with $1,350 cash was taken.
