Fitness Marathon

The Family Y is sponsoring ''Fitness Mania," a free workout marathon on Saturday, Nov. 3 from 9 a.m. until noon in the Wilson Center gymnasium, located at 3570 Wheeler Road in Augusta. The event is open to participants 13 years and older, and includes the best in aerobic dance, crunch and kick, step, and strength training exercises. Basketball registration

Registration for The Family Y's Youth and Iddy Biddy Basketball programs is scheduled Nov. 5-17 at Wheeler Center, 3532 Wheeler Road, Augusta.

Youth Basketball offers team play for boys and girls in grades 1-9. Practices, held once a week, begin the week of Dec. 17, and all games are scheduled on Saturdays from Jan. 5 through Feb. 23, between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Fees are $29 for Gold Members, $37 for Silver Members and $44 for Bronze Members.

Iddy Biddy Basketball is an introductory program for children 4-5 years old. It uses games and drills to teach basketball skills and to develop motor skills. A parent or other adult must participate with the child in the 30-minute classes, which are scheduled on Saturdays from Jan. 12 through Feb. 23, at 9 a.m., 10 a.m. or 11 a.m. Fees are $24 for Gold Members, $29 for Silver Members and $34 for Bronze Members.

School's Out Prime Time

When schools are not in session Monday, Nov. 12 (Richmond County) and Wed., Nov. 21 (Richmond and Columbia counties), The Family Y has days of exciting activities planned for children 5-12 years old. School's Out Prime Time, held at Wheeler Center, 3532 Wheeler Road, offers arts and crafts, games, sports, swimming and more! The program includes: 7 a.m. early drop-off; scheduled activities from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and, 6 p.m. late pick-up. Parents may register children at their Prime Time Discovery program sites. Fees per day are $20 per child (pre-registered) or $25 per child (registering at Wheeler Center the day of the program). A minimum of 15 children must be registered in order for the program to be held. For more information call (706)738-6689.

5K Walk/Run

The Family Y 5K Walk/Run is scheduled Saturday, Nov. 17 at Wilson Center, 3570 Wheeler Road, Augusta. Check-in time is 7:15 to 8:15 a.m., and the race begins at 8:30 a.m. Age groups range from 10 to 70 years and older. The first 125 registrants receive long-sleeved tee shirts. In addition, a free quarter-mile Kids' Run for children ages 6-10 is scheduled at 8 a.m. on the walking track. Proceeds from the race benefit the Ladder 38 Fund, established to aid the family of a New York City firefighter killed in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 terrorist attack. Registration fees are $12 per person (through Nov. 10) or $15 per person (after Nov. 10); registration forms are available at the Wilson Center.
