Church fall festival

Riverview United Methodist Church will be having a fall festival fund raiser from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 6 at the church, located on Fury's Ferry Road in Evans.

Breast cancer awareness events

A breast cancer awareness lunch and learn event will be offered by the American Cancer Society and The Columbia County Health Department from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Oct. 10 at the Grovetown Lions Club on Whiskey Road. The guest speaker will be Dr. Miriam Atkins, a medical oncologist at Augusta Oncology Associates. Reservations should be made no later than Oct. 5 by calling the American Cancer Society at 731-9900.

Fund raiser walk

The Richmond/Columbia County Heart Walk will take place beginning at 9:30 a.m. Oct 13 at Augusta State University. The ''Walking for Future Generations'' event will celebrate children and adult survivors of cardiovascular disease and stroke and will remember friends and family who have lost their lives to the disease. Cave explorers' meeting

The Augusta Cavemasters Club will be having its next meeting at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 16 at the Unitarian Church on Walton Way Extension. The guest speaker will be Carol Jackson, who will discuss the mysteries of caverns. For more information, call 863-2324.

Writers meeting

The CSRA Writers club will be having its next meeting at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 9 at Barnes & Noble Booksellers on Augusta West Parkway. Writers needing a support group are invited to attend and bring copies of manuscripts to be critiqued. For more information, call Lela Turnbull at 738-4114.

Hamfest event offered

The 53rd annual Augusta Hamfest will take place from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Oct. 13 at Evans Middle School. The event will include new and used equipment dealers tailgaiting, VE testing, forums and prize drawings. It's open to all those interested in radio. Tickets will be $5 at the door. Barbecue benefit

American Legion Post 192 in Evans will be having a barbecue benefit at noon on Oct. 6. All proceeds will go to help the family of Don Fritz during a time of need. The post is located at No. 1 Legion Drive off Owens Road in Evans. For more information, call 863-8728.

Autism walkathon

An autism walkathon being sponsored by Kids Care Connections, Inc. will take place at 10 a.m. Oct. 6 at Riverwalk Augusta at Eighth and Reynolds streets. All gifts will be tax deductible and will support family in the Augusta area. Church homecoming

Bellevue Baptist Church will be celebrating its homecoming at 11 a.m. on Oct. 7 at the church. A dinner will follow. Revival services will be at 6 p.m. Oct. 7 and 7 p.m. Oct. 8-Oct. 12. Guest speaker will be Rev. Jerry Wilson. A nursery will be provided for children age 3 and younger.

Plant exchange and sale

A plant exchange and sale event will be offered from 9 a.m.-noon Oct. 13 in the Savannah Rapids Pavilion parking lot. Admission will be free and those attending are asked to bring plants and gardening items to trade or sell. All participants also should bring their own tables and other display equipment. School fall carnival

Evans Elementary School will be having its annual fall carnival, titled this year the ''Tour Around the World 2001,'' from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 13. The event will include games, food, a silent basket auction, pony rides, a fire truck and a dunking booth featuring the school's principal, staff and a media celebrity. School musical
