Oliver Hardy festival

The 13th annual Oliver Hardy Festival will take place in downtown Harlem beginning at 9 a.m. Oct. 6.

The day will start with a children's parade and will follow with arts and crafts exhibitors, pony rides, clowns, carnival rides and Laurel and Hardy look-a-likes. There also will be a barbecue dinner hosted by the Harlem Volunteer Fire Department from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

Anyone interested in participating in the parade, should call 556-3448 or drop by Harlem City Hall to pick up an application.

Halloween event offered

The Columbia County Recreation Department will offer a ''trick-or-treating'' event Oct. 30.

A costume contest and a haunted trail attraction also will be offered. Businesses interested in purchasing a booth for $15 to pass out candy and publicize their business should call Stacie Adkins at 868-3458.

Mule day offered

A Mule Day festival will take place Oct. 13 at Callaway Plantation four miles west of Washington County. The event will include an arts and crafts fair, exhibitions of old-time crafts, antique and class vehicles, children's games including a greased pig contest, wildlife exhibits and tours of Callaway Plantation.
