Editor:
It's a shame some media outlets are trying to use these terrible terrorist attacks upon American soil as another call for burying states rights, limited government intrusion, resistance to tyranny and those Southern symbols which represent the same.
How anxious some liberal pundits are to call all Americans into a form of blind unity which refuses to honestly examine that which made these attacks upon America possible. For example, Southerners have been denouncing for years the federal governments lax and dangerous attitude towards immigration.
Regarding the Sept. 11th terrorist attacks, lets take a look these facts:
The perpetrators were training for and preparing these attacks right here in America.
The airliners used by the terrorists to cause so much destruction and loss of life belonged to America.
We may indeed go to the ends of the earth looking for terrorists, but the ones residing on American soil are the real threat.
We should be more concerned about the loyalty of immigrants in America than which foreign governments are going to join us in some New World Order coalition.
Americans should be leery of what an Office of Homeland Security might entail. We already have the FBI, the CIA, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, and the U. S. military.
Hey, the last thing we Southerners are in need of are silly lectures on which flag to fly in order to appear patriotic. Southern patriotism for America runs deep and true, so deep and true that Southerners are often misunderstood and therefore attacked unfairly.
In all honesty the humbling sight of the Christian flag flying across this land would probably do us the most real good, but how many politically correct newspaper writers would call for that?
