The following accounts were taken from reports filed with the Columbia County Sheriff's office.

Counterfeit bills reported

Two $20 counterfeit bills were found at a Martinez gas station on Sept. 17.

Renee D. Messerly, manager of Circle K on South Belair Road, said the bills were discovered after someone had used them to pay for merchandise, reports showed.

The incident was captured on a store surveillance camera, but the suspect had not been identified or found by the time the report was filed.

The case is considered forgery in the first degree.

Police chase leads to arrest

A 26-year-old Martinez man was arrested Sept. 14 after he allegedly attempted to flee from police following a traffic stop.

Kenneth Allen Hughes of the 400 block of Old Evans Road was charged with obstruction of a law enforcement officer after police say he ran from them from his vehicle and onto a nearby resident's property at the 4200 block of Evans to Locks Road, report showed.

Bobby Bradford, the officer who chased Hughes, said Hughes attempted to climb over a wooden fence in the process, but the fence broke. Bradford then caught up with Hughes and made the arrest, records stated.
