Bruster's Old Fashioned Ice Cream and Yogurt is honoring heroes of the Sept. 11 attacks with an ice cream salute.
"They do a lot for us," said Steve Foushee, the owner of the two local Bruster's locations. "Anything that we can do to support the local fire firefighters, police, safety workers, emergency services workers, all of them, in my mind is not enough because they give it back every day."
The ice cream shop is offering a free scoop of ice cream in a cup or cone to any local emergency services, police or fire department member on the anniversary of the attacks. Workers simply need to show up in uniform or have identification.
"I think it was because (corporate executives) really wanted to thank all of the EMS workers and the police and fire that did such a great job," said Cris Sutherland, the manager of Bruster's Evans location. "It is a thank you from Bruster's for doing that. They work. They work hard for us every day and they especially worked hard on that day."
The program is being offered at all Bruster's location, franchise and corporate-owned, from New Hampshire to Florida, Sutherland said.
Sutherland expects large numbers of police, fire and EMS employees at the two local locations: 516 North Belair Rd., Evans, and 1115 Agerton Ln., Augusta.
"It should be a fun day," Foushee said. "I hope it will be."
