Knights in Brief

From Staff

Head coach: Marty Jackson (fifth season)

2006 record: 4-6

2006 highlight: The Knights started off the season with back-to-back wins against Harlem and Lakeside. The 17-0 shutout over the Panthers saw quarterback Kevin Millward throw two touchdown passes and defensive back Trey Henderson grab an interception.

Last trip to postseason: 2004

Breakout season: Trey Henderson was a starter on the basketball team last year, and those quick hands he used to dribble the rock should also help out on the football team. Look for the 5-10, 185-pound senior to serve as a main target as a wideout. He might make an even bigger impact as a lockdown cornerback on defense.

Player to watch: Good or bad season, Evans fans will always have the chance to watch senior Millward shine. He starts at quarterback, but his other talent, and a legitimate shot at an NCAA D-I scholarship, comes from his leg. Millward was named the CSRA's top punter last season and college scouts will watch him in that capacity again this year.

Strength: Experience is all over the starting roster for the Knights. Millward is back along with veteran receivers Henderson, Jonathan Nicely, David Smith and more. The defensive line is also full of veterans including seniors Tim Tillman (6-2, 285), Mykel Green (6-0, 245) and Trey Golston (6-0, 250)

Weakness: The spot of concern is on the offensive line. Last year's starting center Michael Heredia (5-11, 260) is back for his senior year along with guard Will Brinson (5-10, 215), but there's not much depth to back them up and protect Millward at quarterback.
