Absentee Voting for the July 15 General Primary is now available in the Columbia County Board of Elections Office or via mail. For information, call (706) 868-3355.

Sales tax sessions

The Columbia County Commission will hold a series of meetings for public input on ideas for capital projects to be funded in the 2011-16 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax referendum. The first session will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Jabez Sanford Hardin Performing Arts Center.

Movie series

MCGHealth Children's Medical Center's Movies Under the Stars series will conclude Saturday at the Columbia County amphitheater in Evans with Shrek the Third . Gates open at 7 p.m.; tickets cost $2 for adults, $1 for children ages 13-younger. For information, call (706) 721-5736.

Mammography

The Columbia County Health Department will play host to the Breast Health Center Mobile Mammography Unit at the Evans Health Department on Thursday and on Aug. 18, Oct. 20 and Dec. 15. Appointments are required by calling (706) 868-3330.

Blood drive

The Columbia County Emergency Management Agency Summer Blood Drive, with Shepeard Community Blood Center, will be held from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Evans Government Center Auditorium, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at the Roads and Bridges Department in Appling. GOP breakfast

Patriotic concert

Church of the Holy Comforter will hold its annual barbecue and patriotic concert featuring the Savannah River Winds at 5 p.m. Sunday at Savannah Rapids Pavilion. The Columbia County Extension Service Gardening at Lunch series continues at 12:10 p.m. July 2 with a session on organic pest control. Future sessions include dividing perennials, Aug. 2; companion and rotational planting, Sept. 10; bulbs, Oct. 8; holiday plants, Nov. 12; and transplanting plants, Dec. 3. Archaeology camp

Directory recycling

Keep Columbia County Beautiful and Waste Management have set up recycling bins for telephone books at the Government Complex in Evans, and at Martinez-Columbia Fire Rescue headquarters and stations on Furys Ferry Road, Oakley-Pirkle Road and William Few Parkway. The bins are available until Aug. 31.
