Editor:
Traffic is a great concern to all citizens of Columbia County. The countys infrastructure has tried to keep up with the incredible growth that we have had over the past 10 years. Furys Ferry Road, Davis Road, and Riverwatch Parkway are in the process of being upgraded to meet future traffic demands.
In the Evans Town Center, traffic has become a problem also. The Georgia Department of Transportation has been studying this area and will make their plans public in the coming weeks.
One possibility that has been mentioned is the widening of North Belair Road. I would personally hate to see that beautiful road spoiled with a four-lane highway as much as anybody.
If the DOT comes back with such a plan, I propose that a citizens advisory group be set up to meet with the DOT to offer input into a better solution to the traffic problem. The citizens and DOT worked together to find a solution on Davis Road, and I believe the same can be done in Evans.
