The Run for Aimee 5K is Saturday at the Augusta Canal Headgates at 8 a.m. Cost is $25 per runner or walker. To register, go to active.com. The cutoff time is 9 a.m. Monday.

Soccer

Marshall Family Y fall soccer registration continues at regular prices until Sunday. A late fee of $15 will be assessed after Sunday. Members are $40 and nonmembers are $60. Soccer league for ages 5 through 12 costs $55 for members and $75 for nonmembers.

Greenbrier High School Volleyball Camp is Tuesday through Thursday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the high school. It is open to fifth- through ninth-grade girls and costs $70. Applications are on the school Web site. Click on volleyball or call coach Debbie Born at (706) 650-6040, ext. 4152.

Basketball

I went to a practice for the Soul City Sirens roller derby team in Augusta a few days back, and just being in the roller rink brought me back to my early teen years in the late 1970s and early ’80s.

I haven’t been to a Sirens bout, which is what they call their contests against other teams. But from what head coach Jason Craig tells me, it almost sounds like the times I spent with friends in the rink.

“It’s a show,” said Craig. “There’s music, DJs, beer, all kinds of stuff. It’s the only sport you’ll be talking about at work for four days afterward.”
