Two athletes from different sports shared a common bond Friday when they signed college scholarship letters of intent
at Grovetown High School.

Hunter McBride, who signed to play baseball for Brevard College, and Josalyn Leverett-Scott, who signed to play basketball for Albany State University, are among the first graduating class to attend all four years of high school at Grovetown.

“I’m very pleased,” Leverett-Scott said. “Grovetown has afforded me many opportunities with the teachers and coaches, and I’m very proud,” she said.

After making her mark on the field at Evans High School, Caroline Edmonds had to make her pitch to colleges.

Sending out highlight videos produced by her mother Stacie Adkins and aunt Elizabeth Anderson, Edmonds got a bigger bite than she anticipated from Division I independent Francis Marion University in Florence, S.C. On May 9, Edmonds signed her letter of intent to play for the Patriots in 2013.

JONESBORO, Ga. — The pressure of playing the match to decide a state title might overwhelm many high school players. Lakeside’s Anneliese Leahy seemed to embrace it.

With the Class AAAAA championship match against Starr’s Mill tied at 2, the outcome was put squarely on the shoulders of Leahy. She rose to the occasion and helped the Panthers win their first state tennis championship, 3-2, on Saturday at the Clayton County International Park Tennis Center.
