Ashley Brown: Evans has a chance to upset Coffee

Posted: November 15, 2017 - 2:29am

Lakeside and Harlem had their seasons come to an end. Harlem had a great run that they should be proud of. Also, with A.J. Brown and Cameron Garnett back next season, there should be a lot of excitement surrounding the program next year.

Lakeside used a brutal early schedule to prepare them for region play. The method worked, as they earned a playoff berth again this season.

The news is even better for Evans and Grovetown.

The Knights and Warriors both won at home and advance to Round 2 of the GHSA playoffs.

Evans continued their offensive prowess as they piled up 69 points in a victory over Drew. Junior QB Damekus Taylor had a game to remember with 417 total yards (262 rushing and 155 passing) and 7 TDs (4 rushing and 3 passing). He got some help from Corey Watkins, who posted a TD and 159 yards on the ground and Breshawn Willis who had 3 TD receptions.

Grovetown also turned some heads in the Peach State with a 35-27 win over Lovejoy. DeAngelo Durham and Jahmar Bingham led the offense and the Warrior Defense stood tall late to advance to take on Lee County this week.
