Ashley Brown: Evans, Greenbrier to continue winning ways

Posted: September 13, 2017 - 1:05am

Editor's note: Each week, Ashley Brown makes his picks for Friday night's Columbia County football games. Here's a look at his predictions for this week.

Record: Last Week: 3-1. Season total: 14-4.

Evans (2-1) @ Washington Co. (0-3)

Last Week: Evans hammered Glenn Hills 49-6 / WACO lost to Baldwin 34-28

Do not let WACO's 0-3 mark fool you. This is not a bad football team. They have faced three difficult opponents and they have a wealth of football tradition. That said, this Evans offense has been on a tear, and I think they can get the win.

Greenbrier (3-0) vs. ARC (3-0)

Last Week: Greenbrier topped Harlem 34-7 / ARC shutout Josey 38-0

Not a surprise that Greenbrier is unbeaten, but ARC has not been 3-0 to start a season in a long time. The Musketeers have weapons. Malik Knowles, Torri Taylor, Clydell White, and D.T. Stephens have speed and can make plays on the ground or through the air. Greenbrier will have to rely on their steady defense and the offensive combo of QB Hayden Harrison and RB JQ Brown. The Pack are extremely well-coached and get the most out of their kids. They should have just enough to get the victory.

Grovetown (1-2) vs. Richmond Hill (2-0)

Last Week: Both teams were idle last week

The Warriors had a week off to continue to tweak their offense. They will need a great performance this week to top Richmond Hill.

Harlem (2-1) vs. Glenn Hills (2-1)

Last Week: Harlem lost to Greenbrier 34-7 / Glenn Hills lost to Evans 49-6

Harlem will need to bounce back after getting a little overwhelmed by Greenbrier. The Bulldogs will be in the mix for a playoff spot; they were just facing a larger school with a much bigger talent pool. Todd Booker will have them ready to tangle with the Spartans this week.

Harlem 37, Glenn Hills 20

Augusta Prep (3-0) vs. Thomas Jefferson Academy (0-5)

Last week: AP's game was canceled (Weather/Travel) / TJA fell to Bulloch Academy 39-12

The Cavs had Friday off, but they spent last week preparing for Pinewood Christian, so it was not a typical a bye week. They still should be able to get a win this week.

Augusta Prep 41, Thomas Jefferson Academy 19

Augusta Christian (1-2) @ Sumter Academy (1-3)

Last Week: ACS lost to Westminster 21-0 / Sumter fell to Spartanburg Christian 50-34

The Lions were flat last week and need to come out with some fire this week. Sumter may have a losing record, but they have played some tough opponents and have shown they can score.

Sumter Academy 34, Augusta Christian 17
