Ashley Brown: Columbia County teams should fare better this week

Posted: August 23, 2017 - 2:26am

We went 3-0 on our picks last week, with only 4 of our 7 county teams in action. Unfortunately it was not a great week for our programs (unless you are an Augusta Prep fan) as Grovetown, Lakeside and Augusta Christian all suffered blowout losses.

This week, Evans, Greenbrier and Harlem open their 2017 campaigns. Hopefully, the outcomes will be a little better.

This Week's Matchups

Evans (0-0) @ North Augusta (1-0)

Last Week: North Augusta shut out Lakeside 37-0 / Evans was idle

Last Year: North Augusta beat Evans 28-20

North Augusta rolled last week versus Lakeside, but Evans will be a much stiffer test. Being at home and having a game under their belt gives North Augusta the edge.

North Augusta 30, Evans 26

Greenbrier (0-0) @ Butler (1-0)

Last Week: Butler beat Cross Creek 18-0 / Greenbrier was idle

Last Year: Greenbrier topped Butler 24-18

Greenbrier fans are excited about this year's squad. They will get a test on the road at Butler, but the Pack should be able to get the win.

Greenbrier 27, Butler 19

Grovetown (0-1) North Oconee (0-0)

Last Week: Grovetown lost to Burke Co. 41-7 / North Oconee was idle

Last Year:Grovetown won 20-9

North Oconee struggled to an 0-10 mark a year ago, albeit versus a very tough schedule. Grovetown found the going tough last week versus Burke Co. so this is an important game confidence-wise for the Warriors.

Grovetown 17, North Oconee 16

Glascock Co. (0-1) @ Harlem (0-0)
Last Week: Glascock lost to Kings Ridge Christian 38-6 / Harlem was idle

Last Year: Harlem cruised past Glascock 56-13 last year

There is more excitement about the start of the football season in Harlem this year than any time in recent memory. Bulldog fans should be celebrating a win this Friday Night.

Harlem 48, Glascock Co. 9

Lakeside (0-1) @ Jefferson Co. (1-0)

Last Week: Lakeside lost to North Augusta 37-0 / Jefferson Co. beat Savannah Christian 37-13

Last Year: Jefferson Co. won last year 24-7

Lakeside will have to deal with the new look passing attack from Jefferson County. QB C.J. Hales threw for 220 yards and 4 TDs in their opener last week. The Panthers were held under 50 total yards last week versus North Augusta, so they are looking for major improvement this week.

Jefferson County 38, Lakeside 7

Augusta Prep (1-0) and Augusta Christian (0-1) are both idle this week.
