The county enjoyed another terrific year in softball. The Harlem Bulldogs were the biggest story. Mike Leverett's squad finished 35-4 and captured the GHSA AA State Title.

Grovetown made the state playoffs for the first time in school history and won its opening-round series. We saw the emergence of several underclassmen who stepped up in a major way this season.

Basically, that means trying to select the All-County team was an extremely difficult task. But here are the 2016 All-County softball honorees:

Coach of the Year: Mike Leverett (Harlem)

Coach Leverett has built Harlem into a perennial power in softball. This year he led his club to the promised land as it captured the Class AA State Crown. The team finished the season 35-4 and posted wins over Evans and Lakeside. The Lady Bulldogs outscored the opposition 320-70 for the season.

Player of the Year: Skyler Wiggins (sophomore, Harlem)
Megan McCook, Madison Summers, Diamond Williams, Briana Butler and Sydney Fisher all put up numbers worthy of the award in most years. This season, though, one player stood above the others.

Wiggins was outstanding at the plate and even better on the mound. She hit .432 on the season and drove in 25 runs while striking out only three times in 99 plate appearances. On the hill, Wiggins was simply dominant, finishing the season 23-3 with an ERA of 1.21. She was also tops in the county in wins (23), complete games (16), shutouts (11) and strikeouts (172). Her 172 strikeouts over 144.1 innings of work were nearly 100 more than any other pitcher in the county. She held opposing hitters to a .107 batting average. She added two saves on the season. The bottom line, Harlem does not win the state title without Wiggins.
