Ashley Brown: Greenbrier, Jefferson, AP will remain unbeaten

Evans (3-2) at Alcovy (4-2)

Posted: October 4, 2016 - 11:00pm

Augusta Prep continues to roll. The Cavaliers knocked off Bethlehem Christian Academy, 55-31, to improve to 6-0 on the season. This week, Augusta Prep is
the featured TV game for
television station WJBF
(Channel 6), and the Cavaliers are facing their archrival, Westminster. The game will air at 7:30 p.m. on Channel 380 (Comcast) and 246 (WOW!). The game will air again at noon Sunday.

Grovetown found its groove on offense as it blanked Alcovy, 34-0. This week, things get interesting when Greenbrier travels to Lakeside unbeaten and coming off a bye week.

Here are this week’s picks:

Last Week: 4-1

Season Total: 25-8

Evans (3-2)
at Alcovy (4-2)

Last Week: Evans was idle. Alcovy lost to Grovetown, 34-0

Last Meeting: This is the first meeting between the two schools.

Grovetown showed last week that Alcovy’s record might be a little misleading. I think Evans’ playmakers, led by Levin Lackey, will prove too much for Alcovy.

Prediction: Evans 30, Alcovy 10

Grovetown (3-3)
at Heritage (2-3)

Last Week: Grovetown blanked Alcovy, 34-0. Heritage was idle.

Last Meeting: First meeting

If Grovetown can score the way it did last week, it will be tough to beat the rest of the regular season. Heritage is better than Alcovy, but the Warriors should win.

Prediction: Grovetown 26, Heritage 14

Greenbrier (5-0)
at Lakeside (0-5)

Last Week: Greenbrier was idle. Lakeside lost to Richmond Hill, 31-7

Last Meeting: Lakeside won last year, 36-3

All-Time: Lakeside leads the series, 11-7

The Panthers have won nine straight in the series and have outscored Greenbrier, 287-54, in the past eight meetings. This year has been rough for the Panthers, while Greenbrier is unbeaten and coming off a bye week.

Despite their records, this should be a close game. I would not be surprised if the home team pulls it out, but I think Greenbrier is going to squeak by.

Prediction: Greenbrier 21, Lakeside 20

Harlem (2-4)
vs. Jefferson
County (6-0)

Last Week: Harlem lost to Screven County, 42-10. Jefferson County beat Glenn Hills, 52-14

Last Meeting: Jefferson County won last year, 49-0.

All-Time: Jefferson County leads the series, 9-2.

Harlem will have its hands full with a team that seems to be gaining steam and confidence as the season goes on. The Warriors have allowed only 42 points (7 per game) all season, so it will be tough for the Bulldogs this week.

Prediction: Jefferson County 38, Harlem 13

Augusta Christian
(3-3) vs.
Lee Academy (5-2)

Last Week: ACS lost to Hammond, 48-0. Lee Academy beat Spartanburg Christian Academy, 55-5

Last Meeting: Augusta Christian won, 54-27, in 2006

All-Time: Augusta Christian leads, 2-0.

The Lions had their three-game winning streak snapped last week and have another tough test this week against a hot offense.

Prediction: Lee Academy 34, Augusta Christian 23

Augusta Prep (6-0) vs. Westminster (1-5)

Last Week: AP topped Bethlehem Christian, 55-31. Westminster fell to John Milledge Academy, 54-7

Last Meeting: AP won last year, 23-21 in overtime

All-Time: Westminster leads the series 3-1

Last year was a tight game that came down to the wire. This should be a different story. Westminster will have a tough time with the Cavs’ ground attack, which might lead to a one-sided ball game.

Prediction: Augusta Prep 45, Westminster 10
