Ashley Brown: Weather affects prep games

Posted: September 6, 2016 - 11:02pm

Weather was the story for this past weekend’s games. It forced most games to be moved and a few, including Augusta Prep’s, were cancelled all together.

Greenbrier did play, and played well. The Pack improved to 2-0 by blasting Josey. Greenbrier’s ground attack has looked good with Jonquavous Brown following big fullback Garrett Marchman. Also, Evans gave coach Lem Lackey a win against his former team by rallying past Laney in the second half.

Here are this week’s picks:

Last Week: 3-2

Season Total: 8-2

Evans (1-1) at Glenn Hills (1-1)

Last Week: Evans beat Laney, 28-21. Glenn Hills lost to Cross Creek, 16-7.

Last Meeting: Evans won 28-13 in 2011

All-Time: Series is tied 6-6.

Evans got off to a rough start last week versus Laney. They should be able to handle Glenn Hills, but they do not need to dig a hole for themselves early.

Prediction: Evans 27, Glenn Hills 13

Greenbrier (2-0) at Harlem (1-1)

Last Week: Greenbrier topped Josey, 34-6. Harlem fell to Warren Co., 28-15.

Last Meeting: Greenbrier won 10-3 last year

All-Time: Greenbrier leads the series 4-0

The Pack are off to a 2-0 start and should be able to make it three straight versus the Bulldogs.

Prediction: Greenbrier 28, Harlem 6

Augusta Christian (0-2) at Westminster (0-1)

Last Week: Augusta Christian lost to Calhoun Falls Charter, 50-21. Westminster was off due to a cancellation.

Last Meeting: Westminster won 40-14 last year

All-Time: The series is tied 1-1

Westminster is down compared to last year, but Augusta Christian is too. I think the Wildcats get the win.

Prediction: Westminster 26, Augusta Christian 19

Augusta Prep (2-0) at Pinewood Christian (2-1)

Last Week: AP’s game was cancelled. Pinewood Christian edged Memorial Day, 14-13.

Last Meeting: Pinewood Christian beat AP twice last year – 28-7 in the regular season and 40-7 in the playoffs.

All-Time: Pinewood Christian leads the series, 3-0

Pinewood easily defeated the Cavaliers twice last season and finished the year 11-1. They are not quite as good this year and Augusta Prep’s young roster from a year ago is more mature and I think they will give Pinewood Christian all they can handle.

Prediction: Augusta Prep 27, Pinewood Christian 24

Lakeside (0-2) at Burke County (3-0)

Last Week: Lakeside was off. Burke County defeated Washington County, 38-0.

Last Meeting: Burke County won 28-16 in 2003

All-Time: Burke County leads, 8-3

Coming off a bye week, Lakeside faces another state power this week in undefeated Burke County. The Panthers are looking for their first win of the season. This will be another strong test for Lakeside.

Prediction: Burke County 28, Lakeside 17
