Grovetown could sweep county schools

Posted: October 13, 2015 - 11:02pm

Last Week: 4-0

Season: 33-5 (86.8%)

Well, Grovetown is one win away from claiming a clean sweep of Columbia County public schools after a 41-7 win against Greenbrier on Friday night.

I had a good week, going 4-0.

Heck, I may need to buy a lottery ticket because I actually predicted the exact score in the Dublin-Harlem game, with the Bulldogs falling 34-9.

This Week’s Picks:

Evans (2-4, 1-4)
at ARC (1-5, 1-4)

Last Week: Both teams were idle

Last Meeting: ARC won last year 24-21

All-Time: Evans leads the series 18-3-1

Evans seems to be playing better with a win over Cross Creek and a hard fought loss to Warner Robins. Richmond Academy is way down this year and should not be a huge obstacle for the Knights.

Evans 31, ARC 10

Greenbrier (1-5, 0-5) vs. Cross Creek (1-5, 0-5)

Last Week: Greenbrier lost to Grovetown 41-7 / Cross Creek was idle

Last Meeting: Greenbrier won last year 34-24

All-Time: Greenbrier leads the series 4-1

Cross Creek may only be 1-5, but they really do have a couple of play makers. Greenbrier will need to cut down on the penalties that plagued them against Grovetown and limit the big plays for the Razorbacks to have a chance.

Cross Creek 23, Greenbrier 14

Grovetown (4-2, 3-2)
at Lakeside (2-4, 2-3)

Last Week: Grovetown beat Greenbrier 41-7 / LHS was idle

Last Meeting: Lakeside rolled last year 55-7

All-Time: LHS leads the series 3-0

Lakeside handed Grovetown a beat down last year, but this is an improved Grovetown squad and Lakeside is not what they were a year ago.

That said, this should be a very competitive game between two evenly matched teams. In addition to a little payback, Grovetown is also looking for a clean sweep in Columbia County having already beat Evans, Greenbrier, and Harlem.

Grovetown 21, Lakeside 20

Harlem (2-5, 1-2) vs. Metter (4-2, 1-1)

Last Week: Harlem lost to Dublin 34-9 / Metter was crushed by Jefferson Co. 48-3

Last Meeting: Metter won last year 34-7

All-Time: Metter leads 1-0

Both teams were overmatched last week versus tough region opponents. However, Metter knocked off Dublin two weeks ago on the road, which tells you that they are capable of putting together a solid game.

Metter 33, Harlem 13

Augusta Christian (1-6, 0-3) vs. Porter Gaud

Last Week: ACS lost to Pinewood Prep 47-0

Last Meeting: Porter Gaud won last year 29-20

All-Time: ACS leads the series 8-3

Augusta Christian is in rebuilding mode and their tough season will continue against Porter Gaud.

Porter Gaud 36, Augusta Christian 7

Augusta Prep (4-3)
at Westminster (5-3)

Last Week: AP topped the Augusta Eagles 49-14 / Westminster lost to John Milledge 23-6

Last Meeting: Westminster won last year 44-20

All-Time: Westminster leads the series 3-0

Well, it did not take long for these two to form quite a little rivalry.

This should be a great matchup. The Cavaliers must contain Westminster standout RB Nygl Eaddy, but I really think they will do just that. Many people may be taking Westminster in this one, but I am not one of them.

Augusta Prep 30, Westminster 27
