The new Evans Fitness Club has launched its “Proto-Type Athlete” Sports Specific Training Area and will be holding a gathering of Columbia County middle and high school coaches and athletic directors. The event will take place at the club, on Evans Town Center Boulevard at North Belair Road, at 7 p.m. March 25.
“Proto-Type Athlete is designed to build a solid athletic foundation, while still meeting each athlete’s individual goals” said program director Craig Bryan, who has more than 30 years experience in the field. In addition to Bryan, Evans Fitness Club has assembled a “dream team” of sorts to work with the athletes. 2012 U.S. Olympian George Kitchens is one of the team members and specializes in speed and agility. The also have former Duke star and first round NBA draft pick Will Avery to handle individual basketball workouts, along with Ian Scurlock, who pitched at Louisiana Tech.
The gym will offer camps from May 28 through July 27, on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10 to 11 a.m. for middle school athletes and on Tuesday and Thursdays from 1 to 2 p.m. for athletes high school age and older. The participants will get to do a full 60 minute workout twice a week for eight weeks for a $300 fee. The workouts will focus on speed and agility, explosive power, strength, conditioning, flexibility, injury reduction and nutrition.
