Kacee Camp just completed her final season for the Augusta State University softball team, and the former Harlem Bulldog went out in style. She earned First Team All-Peach Belt Conference honors after hitting .390 and leading ASU to a fourth consecutive NCAA Southeast Regional.
In addition to the team’s run, Camp was also named All-Southeast Region for a fourth consecutive year. Camp had four homers, three triples, 13 doubles, scored 35 runs, drove in 27 runs, and was sensational defensively at shortstop.
On top of her tremendous achievements on the diamond, Camp might be even more productive in the classroom. Earlier this month, Camp, a biology major, was named the Augusta State Athletics Department Scholar-Athlete of the Year. She boasts an impressive 3.88 GPA and was also a First Team Academic All-Conference choice in the PBC.
Camp has already cemented her place in Augusta State history as one of the school’s all-time best softball players. She would also have to be in the argument among the school’s best-ever student-athletes when you consider her most recent honor. Earlier this week, Camp became the first athlete in Augusta State history to be named First Team Academic All-American.
That’s first ever, in any sport – male or female.
Congratulations to Camp for all of her accomplishments.
Grovetown football clinic
Grovetown High School football coach Rodney Holder is passionate about trying to grow the game of football in Columbia County, and he is putting his money where his mouth is.
On June 14-15, Grovetown will hold a football camp for rising third- to eighth-graders. The camp will be free for county residents. Holder is working closely with the newly formed Pop Warner Football Organization. This camp is an attempt to help raise awareness about the program, but also to create more interest in football in the county in general.
