Drew Eller went undefeated during his freshman campaign at Evans, capping off the season with a state championship. When he returns to school next week, he'll do so with another accolade: All-American.

At the U.S. Marine Corps Cadet & Junior National Championships last month in Fargo, N.D., Eller placed fourth in the freestyle event in the 145-pound division to earn All-American status. He is believed to be the first All-American junior wrestler in the Augusta area.

Earlier this year, Eller won the Georgia High School Association Class AAAAAA wrestling championship for the 126-pound class. Eller became the first athlete in the Augusta area to win a wrestling state title as a freshman.

In the final match, Eller defeated senior Travian Walton, of Valdosta, with a score of 18-6. Eller defeated three seniors and a junior in the state championship, finishing the season with a 51-0 record. Eller won the school's first state championship in a decade. Earlier this year, he said he wants to win four state championships in different weight classes during his prep career.

Last year, Eller and his family returned to Evans after spending 10 years in Colorado. There, he developed a love of wrestling and began competing in top-notch events. When he and his family left the Centennial State, naysayers told Eller he would take a step backward in the sport.

Then, he won the 2016 Georgia freestyle state championship, as well as the 2016 Georgia Greco-Roman state championship. A two-time U.S. junior open champion, Eller finished the 2016 season as the third-ranked Future Olympian by USA Wrestling.
