Georgia Lightning wins tournament

On Sunday, the Georgia Lightning 11U travel baseball team of Evans won the East Coast Metal Bat Tournament in Lexington, S.C. This win earned the team an invitation to play in the USSSA Global World Series, today through Sunday, in Charleston, S.C. The Lightning defeated the Gameday Shockwave Majors, 5-3, in the championship game. Tucker Young allowed one run in five innings to pick up the save, while Justin Mayfield, who went 2 for 3 from the plate, recorded the final three outs for the save. During the tournament, outfielder Quinn Jackson caught a hard-hit line drive in the left field, throwing to second baseman Nathan Nordeen for a double play. Hunter Caroll and Young each led the team with a .625 batting average. Catcher Brayden Rutland, third baseman Caleb Ramsey and right fielder Eric Doyon each collected multiple hits for the weekend. Also, Amerson Guy struck out five batters and allowed one run in five innings to pick up a win.
