Sandlin brothers to suit up at Southern Mississippi

Southern Miss released their 2016 Baseball Roster this week, and it included a pair of players from Columbia County.

They both prepped at Greenbrier and they share the same last name – Sandlin.

Do I know a couple of parents whose lives just got easier. You see, when Greenbrier star Nick Sandlin chose to sign at Southern Miss, his
parents already had some lengthy trips in the future.

Couple that with the fact that his brother was a star player at Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville, and the Sandlins were going to have a tricky juggling act this spring.

Well, we got wind over the summer of the possibility of the elder Sandlin (Jake) also playing at Southern Miss.

He went to GC&SU four years ago with little
fanfare and transformed himself into a Division II All-American and one of the best players in Bobcat history. He had one year remaining in his college eligibility and it just so
happens Southern Miss needed an outfielder who was ready to play right away. A few phone calls were placed and the Eagles had two newcomers named Sandlin.

While their parents still had to make the trip to Hattiesburg, Miss., on a regular basis, they no longer had to juggle two separate schedules.

The roster announcement was simply a formality, but it was still cool to
see the names together.

Jake, a 5-foot-11-inch, 168-pound senior, will play outfield and wear No. 12. Nick, a 5-foot-11-inch, 148-pound freshman will pitch and wear No. 5.
