Riverside Middle School players headline all-star event

Hardy heating up for Jaguars

Posted: April 7, 2015 - 11:20pm

This year’s event will take place Saturday at Paine College’s beautiful HEAL Athletic Complex.

The day will feature four games and include more than 120 players from Georgia and South Carolina, and is sponsored by Hometown Sports on Columbia Road.

There will be a middle school girls game (noon), and middle school boys game (2 p.m.), a high school girls game (4 p.m.), and the boys all-star game and dunk contest (5:30 p.m.).

In my last column about the event I highlighted the high school players from Columbia County that will suit up for the event.

Riverside Middle School should be extremely proud, as they have eight players (five boys and three girls) selected to participate in the event.

Here is a look at the middle school players from the county who will get to play this Saturday:

Middle School Girls:

Marrissah Tate, Columbia; Jada Andrews, Riverside; Abby Steele, Riverside; Ellie Grandin Riverside; Cassidy Mulligan, Greenbrier; Jakelia Baker; Stallings Island MS

Middle School Boys:

All day passes for event are only $6 and can be purchased from the participants in advance or at the door on Saturday.

Hardy heating up for Jaguars

Former Greenbrier star Clint Hardy seems to be enjoying his decision to transfer from Western Kentucky University to Georgia Regents University. The 6-2, 190 lb. sophomore has been on quite a tear for the Jaguars. Despite playing in only 24 (22 starts) of the GRU’s 33 games, Hardy’s name is all over the Jags stat leader board.

He is currently in the top three among Jaguar players in 11 different statistical categories, including leading the team in batting average, doubles, triples, slugging percentage, on base percentage, and stolen bases. His numbers are even more impressive when you consider that he is seventh on the team with just 87 at bats. Here is a look at Hardy’s terrific 2015 season:

Hardy Team

Batting average .448 1st* Runs 27 2nd

Doubles 6 1st

Triples 2 1st

Home runs 7 2nd

RBI 22 3rd

Hits 39 3rd

Total bases 64 2nd

Stolen bases 10 1st

Slugging percentage .736 1st**

On-base percentage .510 1st

*(61 points higher than any other GRU Player)

**(129 points higher than any other GRU Player)
