As documented in Wednesday’s edition of News-Times, the soft opening of the Blanchard Woods Park BMX Track was March 16. Saturday, things get grand.

The official opening celebration for the skatepark and BMX track begins at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Blanchard Woods.

At the skatepark, there will be a demonstration by the Blue Tile skate team at 3 p.m. and there will be competitions and giveaways throughout the day.

The Blanchard Woods BMX Association will be at the track during the
day giving guidance to those who want to ride
on the track and will provide bikes, pads and helmets.

At 5 p.m. there is a Pro-Am with a $2,500 purse.

All events will be free to the public but bring money for food and merchandise.

Football awards continue to stack

Even with the high school football season having been done for about four months, accolades are still rolling in, courtesy of The Cedric Oglesby Kicking Academy.

On Saturday in Atlanta, they will recognize and honor the top collegiate and high school kickers, punters, and snappers in Georgia at the second annual Georgia Kicking, Punting, and Snapping Awards. Topping the field from Columbia County were Connor Kubala from Lakeside High School and Larry Beauchamp from Evans.

In Class AAAAA, Kubala was the lone first Team All-State Snapper while Beauchamp received All-State Kicker honorable mention.
