Greenbrier's Justin Hartfield, a key player for Greenbrier, has an average of 18 ppg.

Also, the schools, for the most part, are extremely evenly matched.

After Harlem, I truly believe Grovetown, Greenbrier, Lakeside, Evans and Augusta Christian are almost dead even.

And, Augusta Prep is not to far behind. So, these rankings are not easy, and could certainly change over the next couple of weeks.

1. HARLEM (12-1)

QUALITY WINS: 7-1 vs. the other Columbia County Schools (all Class AAAAA)

LOSS: to Greenbrier, but played without Reggie Reid. With Reid they blew out Greenbrier to open the season

TOP PLAYERS: Reggie Reid – 25.2 ppg., 9.9 reb., 9.2 assists

Torian Beard – 13.4 ppg., 8.3 reb., 5 assists. Also Rayshuan Morris, Dakota Madigan, and Steven St. Clair

2. GROVETOWN (5-2)

QUALITY WINS: Josey and Swainsboro

KEY LOSSES: Lost a pair of close games to Harlem

TOP PLAYERS: Kenny Joseph – 16.5 ppg., 6.3 reb.

Solomon Gause – 13.2 ppg., 5.5 reb.

Logan Morris – 10 ppg., 3.7 reb.

3. AUGUSTA CHRISTIAN (6-3)

QUALITY WINS: Beat Fox Creek twice

KEY LOSSES: North Augusta and a loaded Gray Collegiate Academy team

TOP PLAYERS: Madison Williams – 6-2 junior guard

Calvin Taylor – 6-9 senior center

Isaiah Kelly – 6-6 freshman forward

Also Iverson Johnson and Jacob Greenway

4. GREENBRIER (4-6)

QUALITY WINS: Thomson and Harlem (without Reggie Reid)

KEY LOSSES: Harlem, Effingham County and Tucker (All ranked teams)

TOP PLAYERS: Justen Hartfield – 18 ppg., 5 assists

Jakob Nelson – 17 ppg., 4 rebounds

5. LAKESIDE (1-6)

KEY LOSSES: Harlem twice and Athens Christian twice Do not let this record fool you, Lakeside will be a tough beat in region play. Keep an eye on Sophomore Kresean Hall.

Top Players: B.J. Raymond – 11.4 ppg., 3.9 reb., 52 percent from the floor

Kresean Hall – 13.2 ppg., 10.3 reb.

Jake Gilbert – 10.0 ppg., 10.3 reb.

6. EVANS (1-9)

KEY LOSSES: Harlem twice, Aquinas twice, and North Augusta twice

Evans is very young, but they will get better when Kameron Mason comes back after the break.

TOP PLAYERS: Matlin Marshall, Serron Spann, Qua Childers, Dederick Story, Trevor Caberrus, and Michael Steflik

Keep an eye on Spann.
He is playing well for a freshman.

7. AUGUSTA PREP (4-4)

KEY LOSSES: Hung in there with a good Fox Creek before losing 75-71

The Cavaliers have a good team and could be a dangerous team in their region. Coach Guthrie does a solid job preparing his team.

TOP PLAYERS: Chris Stone – 15.6 ppg., 2.3 reb.

Miles Downing – 11.6 ppg., 5.9 reb.

Christian Guthrie –
6.6 ppg., 3 reb., 3 assists
