Lakeside High School rising junior Hunter Dunagan was the top local at the Georgia State Golf Association Junior Championship in Brunswick, Ga.
The event, held at the Brunswick Country Club, featured a number of Columbia County golfers between the ages of 14 and 17.
Dunagan made the cut with a 1-over-par 145 after Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s rounds and easily made the cut. He fired a 69 on Wednesday, finishing at 2-under-par for the tournament and tied for seventh.
With his top-8 finish, Dunagan automatically qualified for the Georgia-South Carolina Junior Challenge Match at Ansley Golf Club-Settindown Creek in Roswell, Ga., July 25-26.
Greenbrier’s Tyler Barker shot the third-best score of the final round with a 68 and finished at 1-under-par, tied for ninth.
Barker’s teammate States Fort tied for 13th, finishing even after three days, Lakeside’s Joseph Kim was at 54 with a 16-over-par and Greenbrier’s Jack Rautenstrauch was 63rd at 20-over-par.
At The Standard Club in Johns Creek, Ga., Lakeside’s Megan Sabol shot an 18-over-par 241 after three days and finished tied for 18th at the GSGA Girls’ Junior Championship.
