County athletes receive awards at G.A.M.E.S. banquet

Columbia County athletes and coaches took home hardware from the Augusta Sports Council’s 23rd annual Greater Augusta Medals for Excellence in Sports (G.A.M.E.S.) Awards banquet on Thursday night.

Augusta Preparatory Day School’s McKenna de Graaf, who helped lead the Lady Cavaliers to the 2014 Georgia Independent School Association Class AAA girls soccer title, earned gold in the Rising Star category.

First-year boys basketball coach John Harris led Augusta Christian (22-7) to the South Carolina Independent School Association Class AAA title and received Outstanding Coach honors.

Grovetown’s Darius Watkins and Greenbrier’s LeeAnne Rees were Outstanding Male Athlete and Outstanding Female Athlete runners-up, respectively.

Evans’ Dillon Keeler took home a bronze in the All-Around Male Athlete category.
