Ashleigh Currier, 10, dives into the pool for the second leg of a medly relay race at Spring Lakes pool.

Officially into its second week, the CSRA Swim League was in full force Tuesday night with all but three of 21 pools in action.

At Springlakes, the Division 4 Stingrays played host to the Division 3 Jones Creek Sharks. The Sharks led the Stingrays after the opening round of relays and went on to the 446-268 win.

While they kept score, most involved with the meet noted the main aspect of the summer league.

“It’s more of a fun thing than anything serious,” said Springlakes coach John Earwood, who will be a senior at Augusta Preparatory Day School in the fall. “They’re doing a lot better than I thought they would do, but it’s really just for fun.”

Out of the nine swimmers who finished as triple winners by the end of the night, it was six triple winners for the Sharks making a difference.

Sharks’ coach Becca St. Louis was happy with the way her team was performing in its first official meet and noted that familiarity helped.

“We’re moving up a division so it’s good to swim against a team we’ve swum against in the past,” St. Louis said. “We always like going back somewhere we’ve been before.”

Triple winners for Jones Creek were: Alexandria Painter, Hudson Burch, Audrey Munger, Juliette Savard, Peighton Bolt and Will Bissell while JT Earwood, Nathan Rogers and Benjamin Rogers won three races each for Springlakes.

Evans High School standout and rising senior Mitchell Petras, who won the 50 meter backstroke and 100 IM, reiterated the theme of the night.

“It’s a lot more fun, there’s really no pressure, everyone’s here for a good time,” he said.
