For Grovetown High School’s KendylConner, there was really only one choice to be made when it came to choosing a college.
Tuesday, she made that choice official when she signed to play softball for the Lady Jaguars of Georgia Regents University.
The university was always a presence in Conner’s life growing up.
“My dad played baseball at GRU when it was Augusta College,” Conner said.
“I’ve always loved the campus and stuff. It was relaxing to know I only had to apply to one college and I only had to get accepted into one place, so it was good.”
And the Lady Jaguars should love what they’re getting in Conner.
The Lady Warriors’ backstop was a 2013 All-Region second-team performer in a year in which she batted .306 with 15 RBI and 18 walks.
Calling her a team leader, Grovetown head softball coach Jeff Davis said he would miss her.
“I’m really happy for her and I know she’ll enjoy it there and be a good asset to the team, she’s a team player,” Davis said.
While her friends Alexis Schlein of Evans and Lindsey Stokes of Harlem signed with GRU earlier in the year, Conner verbally committed to the Lady Jaguars about the same time. The wait for another legal signing period wasn’t anything that made her anxious, rather the opposite.
“It’s been kind of relaxing to know that it is a decision I’ve made and it’s what I’m going to do for the next few years,” said the potential biology major.
Conner said she has a lot of friends who go there and it was a good decision for her to make.
Going with Schlein and Stokes was a plus.
“I’m excited, we’ve all been really close for a long time,” Conner said.
“I think we’re going to live together next year
on campus. We’re all
excited to do this thing together.”
