Buried under a barrage of 3-pointers, the Lakeside High School girls basketball season came to a quick close Saturday afternoon.
In the Region 2-AAAAA Girls Basketball Tournament opener, the No. 1 seed Northside Lady Eagles fired in five 3-pointers, including four-from Jaliyah Lynch, as they jumped out to a 31-3 first-quarter lead. They would go on to the 53-13 victory.
“We had two seniors and three juniors but very little experience coming back,” said Lady Panthers’ coach Drew Shelton of his squad, which finished 4-20 overall and 0-10 in the region.
‘‘One thing about our team, they play hard,” said Shelton. “They played hard for the entire time. We got down 31-3 and they didn’t pack it in. They played hard the whole 30 minutes so that’s all I can ask of them.”
Tia Williams led the Lady Eagles (18-6, 7-0) with 13 points, Lynch had 12 and Alexia Galloway chipped in with 10 points.
Amber Talley led the Lady Panthers with five points.
